15.6.20 - Story time!
Head over to the Video resource centre to listen to Ms Bhattacharjee, Mrs O'Regan and Miss Catton reading you a story! There are some new stories to go with our 'Land Ahoy' topic - Commotion in the Ocean, Lost and Found and Octopus's Garden. The African Animal stories are still there too.
This week we are learning all about lighthouses. One of my favourite ever stories is 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' by Ronda and David Armitage. Click on the link to hear the story. Then there are some activities to go with the story below.
22.6.20 - This week we are learning about poetry! There are lots of poems in our workbook for you to read and enjoy. Once you have read them you may be ready to write your own poem.
Here is a link, for writing Acrostic poetry. You must start each line with a word beginning with the letter on the left. At the beginning you need to enter your name and what word you want to appear. You could choose beach, shark, ocean, penguin, pirate...
Lots of poems rhyme like Mrs O'Regan's shark poem below.
Can you write a poem that rhymes?
Practice your rhyming words with this game:
Have a look at the website below. Listen to the first line, then click on the different parts of the pictures to choose which line you think should go next. There are 3 choices each time. Which one do you think sounds best? Here is a poem that Mrs. O'Regan made. Can you spot the pairs of rhyming words?
A shark is a fish. He swims so fast ...
A ride on his back would be a blast.
He swims in the ocean, hunting food ...
Don’t get too close or you could be chewed.
He bites his food with razor sharp teeth ...
So keep a look out; he’s lurking beneath!
Circling the ocean, he stalks his prey ...
Looks like he might have called it a day.

This is the official YouTube channel for Read Write Inc. (Ruth Miskin Training). There is a new phonics lesson added most days for Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 sounds. They only stay online for a couple of days though, so if you want to find a particular sound to practise you could look at Mr Mc (see 'Fun With Phonics' below).
Fun with phonics!
Here are some videos to help you practise your phonics. The teacher is called Mr Mc and he has lots of different videos on his YouTube channel. They are a bit like Read Write Inc, with some extra fun bits added in too! If you have some paper and a pencil, get them ready and you can join in too!
Small Town Superheroes need you - use your spelling, punctuation and grammar skills to save the day!
The Karate Cats get you to work in their dojo. Have you got what it takes to get your black belt?
