Welcome to Forest Fields Primary and Nursery School

International activities

International Dimensions at Forest Fields Primary School

We are very proud of our multicultural and diverse school. It has been part of our ethos from the beginning to help children see themselves as global citizens and appreciate their cultural heritage. Our language provision has been strong since it started in 2007 and all the children in KS1 and KS2 have weekly Spanish lessons.  In 2021-22, we completed our Erasmus+ project when 12 of our teachers went to Spain to learn Spanish and to gain cultural knowledge to enable them to teach Spanish effectively in the classrooms

Since then we have introduced several ongoing international activities and continuously look for new opportunities. For instance, we have introduced a yearly International Language Day to celebrate and learn many other languages spoken at our school and in the world. This year we also had an additional German Day to mark International Education Week and our German Teacher Colleague's visit in November.

In addition, we have been working together with Nottingham University on a yearly Bilingual Storytelling session for the past three years. Our Year 4 children will continue to have the benefit of enjoying bilingual stories read by native speakers this year as well. Last year, the children loved learning Arabic and Hindi! This year we looking to introduce a multilingual story day in collaboration with our MakerCommunity and involve our community to share traditional tales from their cultures.

During the last academic year, the school engaged in various international activities including Pen Pal letters to our partner school in Kenya and an online historical debate and historical play with a school in New York. For our hard work, we were awarded the Intermediate International School Award.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES 2024-2025

GERMAN DAY 20th of November 2024

During our German Day, the children were invited to come to school in non-uniform in the colours of the German flag. Our special German visitor, Mrs Voll, shared with the children pictures and videos from her primary school in Germany and the children were able to ask questions about their school system. The classrooms were buzzing with excitement with children learning about Germany's 300 different breads and fast motorways. There was a great variety of activities involving learning German and creating art pieces inspired by the country's cities. Photos to follow.

Year 5 - Art work inspired by Brandenburg Gate in Berlin

Year 6 received letters from our German friends!
